When to use
  • Suspected alcohol-associated hepatitis.
Pearls and pitfalls
  • DF 32 or more: severe; consider prednisolone 40 mg/day if no contraindication.
  • MELD above 20 is an alternative severity threshold.
  • Reassess response with the Lille score on day 7.
Why use

The classic steroid-eligibility threshold.

DF = 4.6 × (patient PT − control PT) + total bilirubin (mg/dL)
