When to use
  • Obese adults (BMI above 30) needing a CrCl for drug dosing.
Pearls and pitfalls
  • Compare with Cockcroft-Gault using adjusted weight; agreement increases confidence.
  • Same creatinine caveats as other equations: unstable function, very low muscle mass.
Why use

Cockcroft-Gault with actual weight overestimates clearance in obesity.

Male: (137 − age) × (0.285 × W + 12.1 × H²) ÷ (51 × SCr). Female: (146 − age) × (0.287 × W + 9.74 × H²) ÷ (60 × SCr). W in kg, H in m.
