Capsule fill (volume and powder density)

Diluent per capsule and for the batch from the capsule size, the drug amount, and the powders' bulk densities.

Version 1.0.0

Inputs

2 of 5
Capsule size
%
Tapped, g/mL
g/mL
Tapped, g/mL; or enter a blank fill weight below
g/mL
Optional; measured average
When to use
  • Planning a batch of hand-filled capsules.
Pearls and pitfalls
  • Measure tapped bulk density of your powders (mass of powder that fills a graduated cylinder after tapping) or enter a measured blank capsule fill weight.
  • Make a few extra capsules' worth of blend for loss.
Why use

Each capsule must be filled completely; the diluent makes up the difference between the drug's volume and the capsule's volume.

Drug volume = drug mass ÷ drug bulk density; diluent mass = (capsule volume − drug volume) × diluent bulk density
