Suppository base with a displacement factor

Base and drug to weigh for a batch of suppositories from the mold's blank weight and the drug's displacement (density) factor.

Version 1.0.0

Inputs

1 of 5
Extra suppositories' worth, as a percent
%
g
g of drug that displaces 1 g of base
When to use
  • Making a batch of medicated suppositories in a calibrated mold.
Pearls and pitfalls
  • Calibrate the mold with the base you will use: the blank weight is the average weight of base-only suppositories.
  • Enter the displacement factor for this drug in this base from your reference or your own determination (grams of drug that displace 1 g of base).
Why use

The drug takes up room in each cavity, so less base is needed than the blank weight suggests.

Base = N × blank weight − (N × drug per suppository ÷ displacement factor), with N including any overage
