Percent strength (w/v, w/w, v/v)
Ingredient amount for a percent strength, or the percent strength of a preparation, with the ratio strength.
Inputs
1 of 2Expression
mL for w/v and v/v; g for w/w
mL or g
Leave empty to calculate
%
Leave empty to calculate (g for w/v and w/w; mL for v/v)
When to use
- Weighing an ingredient for a percent-strength cream, ointment, or solution.
- Checking the strength of a finished preparation.
Pearls and pitfalls
- w/v is grams per 100 mL; w/w is grams per 100 g; v/v is milliliters per 100 mL.
- Leave the strength empty to calculate it from the amount, or the amount empty to calculate it from the strength.
Why use
Shows the amount, the strength, and the ratio strength together so the label and the worksheet agree.
w/v: g per 100 mL; w/w: g per 100 g; v/v: mL per 100 mL. Amount = % × total ÷ 100; % = amount ÷ total × 100; ratio 1:x with x = 100 ÷ %
