When to use
  • Reading an older ratio-strength order or label.
  • Checking a dilution expressed in more than one way.
Pearls and pitfalls
  • 1:1000 w/v is 1 g in 1000 mL, which is 0.1% and 1 mg/mL.
  • Ratio strength is normally written for weak preparations; percent is clearer on labels.
Why use

One entry shows all three forms side by side.

% w/v = 100 ÷ x; mg/mL = % × 10; x = 100 ÷ % (for 1:x w/v)
